Insomnia & Charlie Horses

It's funny how you so quickly forget the tough parts of pregnancy after the baby is born. Now that it is happening again though, all the memories have come flooding back. Like tonight, for example, I have spent the last 3 hours lying in bed trying hopelessly to get my tired body to sleep. Tossing and turning, trying not to agitate my round ligaments that have started hurting. I think I was about there when I got my first charlie horse of the pregnancy, not fun. So I got up to stretch it out and walk it off and figured I might as well stay up for a bit and post a few pics from the last month.

Jackson made his first joke a few weeks ago. As he was "helping" me unload the dishwasher he grabbed a bowl, put it on his head, and looked at me with a huge grin and said, "hat!". He got a good laugh out of me, so now he thinks he is funny and puts all kinds of random objects on his head and calls them hats. Here is just one of many examples:)
A few days after that I was busy doing something while Jackson ate lunch and wasn't paying much attention to him. I finally looked over to find him half asleep, yet somehow still eating. He kept at it long enough for me to grab my camera and snap a few pics before he finally fell fully asleep. It was pretty funny!
Jordan has had Fridays off this semester which we LOVE and are trying to take advantage of since it won't last long. We have done some fun things, like gone to check out the Aviary. Jackson loved all of the birds, but his favorite are still the penguins. He also really liked feeding the big blue one below. I thought he might get scared, but nope, he thought it was awesome!

And of course, Jackson and I made and decorated sugar cookies for Valentine's Day. Can you tell which ones he frosted? It was messy, but he loved it. At first he didn't understand why he couldn't eat the cookies, but he caught on pretty quickly:)
Don't worry, that's just flour on the floor. And yes, that is my lovely morning attire when we don't leave the house:)
Jackson is getting so grown up so fast! He surprises me all the time by saying new words I didn't even know he knew. For instance, the other day he spilled his cereal and looked up at me and said, "mess!". Or one time he saw a picture of a mom and baby kissing so he pointed to it and said, "kiss". He even pointed out the moon the other day. It's just so neat to see him catching on to the things we say. He is also starting to learn some shapes and we are working on colors, though he doesn't usually get them right. However, he can now consistently count to 3 and walks around counting his fingers all of the time. He is so smart and so fun to watch! We started time outs with him a little while ago and wow are they working! Jackson hates them, even though all we do is make him stand in a corner for like 30 seconds. He knows he is in trouble though because he always turns around and gives us a big kiss when he is done:) He is still super stubborn, but at least he is much better at not throwing fits and rarely do we catch him climbing on the table or sneaking into the bathroom to play in the toilet now (gross!).

I LOVE the picture of him falling asleep eating a cookie. "So tired, but this cookie is so worth it!" Hopefully you are able to get more sleep at nights so you don't end up doing that during meal time!
